Commit-o-phobe

Yes, that’s the best way to describe me…or it has been for years.  I like to live in the now and commitment guarantees an outcome.   I don’t believe in guarantees.

I’m simple.  I like coffee in the morning.  Quiet time to myself.  New material to study.  Oh and people who can entertain my overflowing and ever-changing train of thought.

I’ve found a beautiful balance within my work.  My business’s that grow themselves and my lineup of new tasks and clients.

Right now – literally today – I will be emersing myself in a change of seasons.  Where my world changes from a meditative aquatic therapy class to exciting out-door hooping tricks and events.

This will be a sweet ending to my second year at the Temple Gardens Hotel and Spa.  A beautiful two years with a company who sought me out and set me loose to develop my own program.  This is my newest baby turning two!  The evolution has been a calming yet inspiring experience that I’m grateful for beyond words.

Classes begin again September 1.  This is a commitment that excites me ~ I look forward to a third term with the spa for 2017/2018.  I hope to spend more time with those familiar faces and meet more beautiful travelling souls.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to grace the waters during this 2016/2017 season.  Enjoy your summer!

What is Meditation.

The image of meditation is of someone sitting in lotus position, serene look on their face, back straight, shoulders relaxed with their thumb and first finger connecting.

That image may have truth to it but rest assured that’s not the only way to a meditative state.

Have you ever had a great “stare”?  Gazing intently ahead of you – not looking at anything but doing so with great focus?  That great stare where you’re afraid to blink and loose it snapping ypu back to reality?  Who knows the comfort and stillness of that stare every muscle in your body relaxed.  It’s Devine!

Often while doing a repetitive activity, I find myelf lost in the motion and pace.  Mind empty eyes serene?  Muscles relaxed yet engaged.

If yes, you’ve meditated and I encourage your practicing it more often.

This week my mind has been full of the thought of emptying through meditative means.   I attended a beautiful crystal bowl meditation that had me blessed out and blissed up giving me cause to pause and appreciate the gift it was.

Moving on to my hoop class Thursday night I found myself in sync with my hoop and just moving through whatever motions came.  No direction or fore-thought but just a full on self-centered hoop flow and it occurred to me that people need this.  Again and again in all areas of their life.  Whether through silent meditation.   Binaural beats meditation, movement, or through stillness.  Meditation in daily life is needed….it’s required.   Another way to become self-centered and beat the stress of daily life.

There are so many opportunities for meditation in our city I truly encourage you to jump on board and try something new.

This week I’ll run my pilot program for Exploring the Silence meditation.   Giving you a few tools to take home with you and encorporate more peace and calm in your day to day life.

Tools – four of them to help you design your best life.

Sunday 6pm at the Cosmo Center in Moose Jaw.  Be sure to enter through the brown south facing door and up the stairs.

Day 16 already! ย Third Eye Chakra!!!

I’m blown away by the personal successes I am finding through this continued chakra work.  Daily ~ everyday ~ for 16 days I’ve intentionally given thought, clarity, and purpose to each day. Focusing my intention on release blocks barring me from experiencing, enjoying, and expressing my true self.

It’s fully amazed me how each chakra has unintentionally aligned with some event in my life.  Revealing to me just how important it was to host this program.

Intuition – having clarity, wisdom, vision, and trusting it to pull you forward.

Moving on to the 6th chakra we begin to sense and see our own proper paths.  Ruling our senses, our nervous system, and our pituitary gland we rely on this energy center in the body.

Keeping it balanced can support our strong intuition, provide us with penetrating insight, creative imagination, good memory, good dream recall, ability to visualize, and a guiding vision for our lives.

However, excesses and deficiencies can cause imbalances.  Excessive characteristics can be hallucinations, delusions, obsessions, nightmares, intrusive memories, difficulty concentrating, and/or excessive fantasizing.

Meanwhile, deficiencies can be noted by lack of imagination, difficulty visualizing, insensitivity, excessive skepticism, denial, or inability to see alternatives.

Regardless of where your balance sits within this chakra, there are treatments that can assist in strengthening or loosening each characteristic.  Aiding you in living your best life yet.

I can’t wait to explore this third eye chakra further!

Moving on…to the Heart!

At this late hour on day 9 of the 21 days of chakra balancing, cleansing, exploring, and/or focusing it’s occurred to me that it’s time to open that heart.  To make space for all the self-care, intimacy, and compassion you can handle.

Again, what you intend, what you put into this program is what you’ll receive.  Is the daily effort worth your time?  Are you worth your time?  Absolutely.

As soon as I begin to consider the heart chakra my mind wanders to Quan Yin the goddess of great compassion for self and for others.  Accepting everyone where they’re at knowing it’s the perfect space for them.  The timing is always perfect. No need to rush, feel guilty, shame, or criticize.  It’s all perfect ๐Ÿ’š.  She is the embodiment of what it means to be open hearted, well for me anyways.

That being said let’s move on to the exploration of our hearts center.

What are our ideal foods?  How can we feed our body to nourishing this chakra and it’s dynamic needs?  Leafy greens!  The leafier the better!  Opening kindly and gently just the way we want our hearts to mirror.

Balance!  Do you have it in this chakra?  If yes you’ll find yourself to be mostly caring, compassionate, empathetic, accepting, self-loving, peaceful, centered, and content. ๐Ÿ’š

The excesses.  Maybe you’re finding codependant relationships, excersizing poor boundaries, jealous, or being a martyr or a pleaser to often.

The deficiencies.  You’ve become anti-social or withdrawn, critical or intolerant, lonely, isolated, have a lack of empathy or a fear of intimacy.

Balancing chakras can be something we spend the rest of our lives doing depending on situations and life changes.

If the excesses and deficiencies discourage you know there is help.

Solar plexus chakra

Day 7?  What?!  How are we already 1/3 of the way through?  This week has flown by so fast for me and I’ve experienced some deep truths about both myself and how this program will work moving forward!

Down to business!  I haven’t been posting about food in the main chakra introductory post and I realize now that it’s the best place to start.  Nourishing the basics, watering the roots to provide a strong supportive system.  So food… the food you want to support this chakra with are is dried beans, oats, legumes, spices.  I hear soaking them for easy digestion is the way to go.

So how do you know when your solar plexus is in balanced?  You’ll have a positive sense of yourself.  Feel confident, energetic and warm.  You’ll be reliable but spontaneous and able to take risks, and you’ll find yourself with good self discipline.

If you’re excessive in this chakra you’ll be dominating, controlling, competitive, arrogant, ambitious, hyperactive, driven, stubborn and and attracted to sedatives.

If your deficient – you’ll be passive, have a lack of energy, poor digestion, cold, submissive, have low self esteem, weak will and poor self discipline.

You should have a good idea where you’re needing to focus your energy at this point aiming for a healthy, balanced solar plexus will be the goal of the next 3 days.  Whether I will enjoy three days of curried lentils or indulge in fried plantains and banana ice cream, it’s hard to say!

Sacral Chakraย

Welcome to day 4 of our journey through the chakras.  Now that we have assesed our “vehicle” and have an understanding of the foundation we can move on to the 2nd or Sacral Chakra.  The element water begins to take over here.  Moving from the firm support of the earth to the ever moving and flowing softness of the water element.  A brilliant shade of orange illuminates our creativity, our appetites, and our desires in life.

Check in with your 2nd chakra right behind your belly button between your hip bones.  Are you balanced? If yes, you may experience graceful movements, emotional intelligence, healthy boundaries, passion, sexual satisfaction, nurturing of self and others, and the ability to embrace change.

If you’re in excess, sexual addictions, obsessive attachments, excessive mood swings, become super sensitivity, poor boundaries of your own and those around you, instability, or addiction to stimulation may be darkening your Sacral Chakra.

Deficiencies may create rigidity in our body and beliefs, numbness (emotionally) or insensitivity, a fear of change, lack of desire, poor social skills, or avoidance of pleasure and fear of sexuality.

Disolving our boundaries and exploring this chakra intimately is the biggest obstacle for me.  So carrying that awareness and scceptance throughout this next 3 day period I intend to honor where I am at.  To use the Mudra’s, the Meditations, and the Yoga Asana’s to honestly explore and release any fears or blockages not serving me.  Will you do the same?   When we truly begin to water our roots the growth and connection can begin.

Without water there is no growth ~ water makes life juicy!

Thanks for being with me on this journey.

Celebrating with Crystal Quartz

A powerful healing stone shaped into these magnificent, heavy bowls that create a sound vibration so intense it has the ability to realign your life and mind.  Listened to and absorbed on the right day can create bliss in the best of ways.

My path has crossed Glenda Lee’s many times.  She has created a cool calm in my mind at my most anxious times and she has soothed the tension away with her tuning forks and her own brand of helpful healing magic.

I was lucky enough to experience her again.  The timing was finally right to connect during Yule I took the opportunity to spend time with myself in her sound.  Accompanied by Claudette Durupt’s guided meditation – it was a night I shared with my daughter.  Another experience we will never forget.

Now, I’m unsure what the “right” way to enjoy a meditation is.  Whether lying still is a sign of freedom from your body, or movement is viewed as a way to settle the extra energy that life has supplied to you, or even if sitting cross legged for an extended amount of time is “right” I am unaware.

For me meditation is less about the position or the stillness and more about time to acknowledge the thoughts that arise.  A time to hear myself out – in a busy life I don’t do that often enough.  So ever the multitasker – even in meditation I found space to realign with my desires.  My personal passions and to begin taking that step forward.

These alternative healing modalities both a new experience and a new way to breathe fresh air deep into darkest corners of my mind.  Shaking up the old ideas and creating new beautiful paths.

I’ve often considered a healing, empowering yoga class with the crystal bowls played in the back ground….maybe one day.
